The Sorting Hat is an imaginative enchanted object. It was designed by J.K. Rowling, and is a nod to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by Hogwarts’ Founders of Hogwarts to decide the students to put in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat can be used to determine what house a student should live in. It is able to read a wearer’s thoughts and respond to their thoughts. It can even speak to them. It can also be used to determine the House where a student is from and to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.

Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts, the Room of Requirement played a important role in the Harry Potter series. It was not only the place where Harry received his first (and final) horcrux but also the place where Voldemort discovered his diadem that he had lost. The Room of Requirement was so obscure that it took Dumbledore almost a year to discover its dark past.

The room also houses a variety of odd artifacts, such as the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact in its own right. The hat also features the legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. This isn’t an easy task but it has been accomplished by a handful.
