Sorting hat
Each student is assigned the Hogwarts house in their first year. This is based on their personality traits. The Sorting Hat does the heavy lifting, placing students into the best House to test them. It’s a great way test out the strengths and weaknesses of a person.

The Sorting Hat is a clever enchanted object. It was designed by J.K. Rowling, and is a nod to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by Hogwarts’ Founders of Hogwarts to decide which students to place in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat can also be used to determine the home a student should reside in. It is able to read the wearer’s mind and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can also be used to determine which House students belong to and to award the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy.

Required Room
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts The Room of Requirement played a pivotal role in the series. In addition to providing Harry with his first (and final) Horcrux, it was also the place where Voldemort’s diadem, which was lost, was hidden. The Room of Requirement was so obscure that it took Dumbledore nearly a year to uncover its dark past.

The room also contains a number of odd-looking artifacts like the Sorting Hat, which is a sapient artifact. It also contains the legilimen, a device that uses legitmization in order to read minds. Although this is a more difficult task than the majority of wizards would have you believe it is actually only performed by a few.
