Sorting hat

The Sorting Hat also serves a number of functions beyond the simple task of determining the house to which a student should be assigned. It is able to listen to the wearer’s thoughts, respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can also be used to determine the House a student belongs to, and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.

Hogwarts is full of secrets. Some of them are kept from view by the outside like the Chamber of Secrets. Some are well-known and widely used like the Leaky Cauldron restaurant and Gringotts Money Exchange.

Salazar Slytherin constructed the Chamber of Secrets before he left Hogwarts. It was designed to rid Hogwarts of students born to the Muggle race. Voldemort believed that he won the last battle and planned to take all Hogwarts students to Slytherin. However, he died before he could carry out his plan.

The Chamber of Secrets is deep beneath Hogwarts school. It also serves as the home to the ancient Basilisk. The Chamber is left open when Dumbledore’s army gets betrayed. Some of these short-cuts are only available to members of the House. Behind barrels is the secret entrance to Hufflepuff. It’s also under the spell, so tap the barrel with a rhythm to open a slimy chute.

The Dark Room is where Dumbledore’s Army meets. It is the scene of numerous battles in the Harry Potter series. It is also where Dumbledore debates for Harry’s defense. It has floor cushions for defensive spells as well as volumes of Defence Against the Dark Arts.

There are also secret entrances to four House dormitories. These entrances are hidden from the outside world and require a password. These entrances can only be used by members of the House.
