The first year at Hogwarts the students are assigned a house based on the student’s characteristics. The Sorting Hat does the heavy lifting and places students in the most appropriate House to challenge their personality. It’s a great opportunity to determine your strengths and weaknesses.
The Sorting Hat is an enchanted and clever object. It was created by J.K. Rowling, and is a nod to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide which students to place in their Houses.
The Sorting Hat can be used to determine which home a student should reside in. It can read the wearer’s thoughts and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can also be used to determine the House which a student comes from and also to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who have the qualifications.
Room of Requirement
The Room of Requirement was a crucial element of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. It was not only the location where Harry got his first (and final) horcrux but it was also where Voldemort discovered his diadem. In fact the Room of Requirement was so enigmatic that it took the most enigmatic part of the year for Dumbledore to uncover its sinister past.
The area is also home to various odd-looking artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact in its own right. The hat also features the legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. While this is a trickier task than many wizards would have you believe it is being only performed by a few.
