The Sorting Hat can also be used to determine the house a student is best placed in. It is able to read the wearer’s thoughts and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It can also be used to determine the House where a student is from and to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.

Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts, the Room of Requirement played a important role in the Harry Potter series. In addition to the fact that it provided Harry with his first (and last) Horcrux, it was also the place where Voldemort’s diadem, which was lost, was kept. In fact the Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took the best part of a year Dumbledore to uncover its sinister past.

The room also houses various odd-looking artifacts, such as the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact that is its own. The hat also contains the legilimen, a device that uses legitmization in order to read minds. This is a challenging task however it has been achieved by a few.
