The Sorting Hat is imaginative and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat which was the property of Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine the students who will be placed in Hogwarts Houses , as decided by the Founders of Hogwarts.
The Sorting Hat can also be used to determine what house a student should live in. It is able to listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can be used to determine the House in which a student is from and to give the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.
Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts The Room of Requirement played a crucial role in the story. It was not only the location where Harry obtained his first (and final) horcrux but it was also the place where Voldemort found his lost diadem. The Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took Dumbledore almost a year to discover its dark past.
The room also houses a range of oddball artifacts including the Sorting Hat, which is an artifact that is sapient. It also has an legilimen that utilizes legitmization to read minds. While this is a harder task than most wizards would have you believe it is being performed by a select few.

Some of these short-cuts are only known to members of the House. Behind barrels lies the secret entry point to Hufflepuff. The barrels are also under spell, so if you tap the barrel in a rhythm it will open up a slimy chute.
The Dark Room is the place where Dumbledore’s Army gathers. It is also the location of many of the battles in the Harry Potter series. It is also where Dumbledore debates in Harry’s defence. It also contains floor cushions for defensive spells, as well as volumes of Defence Against the Dark Arts.
