Each student is assigned an Hogwarts house in their first year. This is determined by their personality. The Sorting Hat takes care of the heavy lifting and places students in the right House to test their character. It’s a great way to discover the strengths and weaknesses of a person.

The Sorting Hat is an enchanted and clever object. It was designed by J.K. Rowling, and is a reference to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by Hogwarts’ Founders of Hogwarts to decide the students to put in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat also serves various other tasks, in addition to determining which house a student should be assigned. It is able to listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It is also used to determine which House students belong to and to award the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.

Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts The Room of Requirement played a pivotal role in the series. It was not just the place the location where Harry received his first (and final) horcrux but it was also the place where Voldemort discovered his diadem that he had lost. The Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took Dumbledore almost a year to unravel its dark history.

The area is also home to an array of oddball artifacts, such as the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact in its own right. It also has a legilimen that uses legitmization to read minds. This is a challenging task but it has been achieved by a handful.

Chapter House
