The Sorting Hat is imaginative and magical. It was created by J.K. Rowling, and is a nod to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine which students will be placed in the Hogwarts Houses by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat can also be used to determine what house a student should live in. It can read the wearer’s thoughts and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It can also be used to determine the House where a student is from and also to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who have the qualifications.

Required Room
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts, the Room of Requirement played a important role in the Harry Potter series. In addition to it providing Harry with his first (and last) horcrux, it was also the location where Voldemort’s lost diadem was kept. The Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took Dumbledore almost a year to discover its dark past.

The area is also home to a variety of odd artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact of its own. It also contains the legilimen, which utilizes legitmization in order to read minds. Although this is a more difficult task than the majority of wizards would like you to believe it is being only performed by a few.
