The Sorting Hat is creative and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat which was the property of Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine which students will be placed in Hogwarts Houses by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat can be used to determine the house a student is best placed in. It is able to read the wearer’s mind and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It also helps determine which House students belong to and to award the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy.

Room of Requirement
The Room of Requirement was a important part of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. It was not only the place where Harry got his first (and final) horcrux but also the place where Voldemort discovered his diadem that he had lost. The Room of Requirement was so obscure that it took Dumbledore almost a year to uncover its dark past.

The room also houses a variety of odd artifacts, such as the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact in its own right. It also has an legilimen that utilizes legitmization to read minds. This is a challenging task but it has been achieved by a few.
