The Sorting Hat is clever and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat that belonged to Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine which students will be placed in the Hogwarts Houses , as decided by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat also performs various other tasks, in addition to determining which house a student needs to be assigned. It can listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It can also be used to determine the House where a student is from and also to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.

Required Room
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts The Room of Requirement played a pivotal role in the series. Aside from it providing Harry with his first (and last) Horcrux, it was also the place where Voldemort’s diadem, which was lost, was kept. The Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took Dumbledore almost a year to uncover its dark past.

The room also houses a range of odd-looking artifacts like the Sorting Hat, which is an artifact that is sapient. The hat also features the legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. This is a challenging task but it has been successfully completed by a handful.
