One of the most significant characters in the Harry Potter franchise is Newt Scamander Hufflepuff. He was a remarkable magizoologist and was loved by all who saw him. The Sorting Hat is creative and magical. It was created by J.K. Rowling, and is a reference to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide which students they will place in their Houses.
The Sorting Hat also performs many other functions, besides the decision of which house a student needs to be assigned. It can read the wearer’s mind, respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It is also used to determine the House a student belongs to, and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.

The area is also home to a variety of odd artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact in its own right. The hat also houses a legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. While this is a trickier task than the majority of wizards would like you to believe, it has been only performed by a few.
