In the first year of Hogwarts the students are assigned an appropriate house that is based on their personality traits. The Sorting Hat does the heavy lifting, placing students into the most appropriate House to test them. It’s a great opportunity to test out your strengths and weaknesses.

The Sorting Hat is clever and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat which was the property of Godric Gryffindor. It is also used to determine which students will be placed in the Hogwarts Houses , as decided by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat can be used to determine the house a student should live in. It can read the wearer’s mind and react to their thoughts. It is even able to speak to them. It can also be used to determine the House a student belongs to and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.

Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts, the Room of Requirement played a crucial role in the story. It was not just the location where Harry obtained his first (and final) horcrux but it was also the place the location where Voldemort discovered his diadem. The Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took Dumbledore almost a year to unravel its dark history.

The area is also home to various odd-looking artifacts like the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact that is its own. The hat also features a legilimen that uses legitmization to read minds. This is a difficult task but it has been successfully completed by a handful.
