Sorting hat
Every student is assigned a Hogwarts house during their first year. This is dependent on their personality. The Sorting Hat does the heavy lifting, placing students in the most appropriate House to challenge them. It’s a great opportunity to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a person.
The Sorting Hat is an enchanted and clever object. It was designed by J.K. Rowling, and is a reference to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide the students to put in their Houses.
The Sorting Hat can be used to determine the home a student should reside in. It is able to read the wearer’s mind and react to their thoughts. It is even able to speak to them. It can also be used to determine the House which a student comes from and to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who have the qualifications.
Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts The Room of Requirement played a pivotal role in the series. It was not only the place where Harry obtained his first (and final) Horcrux, but it was also the place where Voldemort found his lost diadem. In actuality the Room of Requirement was so enigmatic that it took the most enigmatic part of a year Dumbledore to uncover its sinister past.
The room also contains a number of oddball artifacts including the Sorting Hat, which is an ancient artifact. It also contains the legilimen, a device that uses legitmization to read minds. While this is a harder task than most wizards would have you believe, it has been only performed by a few.
