The Sorting Hat is imaginative and magical. It was created by J.K. Rowling, and is a nod to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide which students to place in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat also performs a number of functions beyond the simple task of determining which house a student needs to be assigned. It can listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It also helps determine which House a student belongs to and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.

Required Room

It was not just where Harry got his first (and final) Horcrux, but also where Voldemort discovered his diadem. The Room of Requirement was so obscure that it took Dumbledore nearly a year to unravel its dark history.

The room also contains a number of oddball artifacts including the Sorting Hat, which is an artifact that is sapient. It also has the legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. This is a challenging task, but it has been accomplished by a handful.

The Reading Room is the only space in the library that is completely silent. It is where you will find rows of study tables all covered in red-carpeted walls. Located under the study tables are electrical outlets.
