Sorting hat
The first year at Hogwarts, each student is assigned a house based on the student’s characteristics. The Sorting Hat does the heavy lifting, placing students into the most appropriate House to test them. It’s a great way to test one’s strengths and weaknesses.

The Sorting Hat is creative and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat that belonged to Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide which students to place in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat also serves many other functions, besides the simple task of determining which house a student should be assigned. It can read the wearer’s thoughts and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can be used to determine the House where a student is from and to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who have the qualifications.

Room of Requirement
During Harry’s time at Hogwarts, the Room of Requirement played a pivotal role in the series. It was not only the place where Harry got his first (and final) Horcrux, but it was also the place where Voldemort discovered his diadem that he had lost. In fact the Room of Requirement was so enigmatic that it took the most enigmatic part of the year for Dumbledore to unmask its nefarious past.

The room also contains a number of odd artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, which is an ancient artifact. It also contains a legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. This is a challenging task but it has been successfully completed by a handful.
