Each student is assigned a Hogwarts house in their first year. This is based on their personality traits. The Sorting Hat takes care of the heavy lifting and puts students in the most appropriate House to test their personality. It’s a great way for students to test their strengths and weaknesses.

The Sorting Hat is imaginative and magical. It was designed by J.K. Rowling, and is a nod to the magician’s hat, which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide the students to put in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat also serves many other functions, besides determining which house a student needs to be assigned. It can read the wearer’s thoughts and respond to their thoughts. It can even talk to them. It can also be used to determine the House the student is a member of and to award the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.

Required Room
The Room of Requirement was a key element of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. In addition to it providing Harry with his first (and last) Horcrux, it was also where Voldemort’s lost diadem was hidden. In actual fact the Room of Requirement was so enigmatic that it took the most enigmatic part of a year for Dumbledore to uncover its sinister past.

The room also houses a variety of odd-looking artifacts like the Sorting Hat, which is an artifact that is sapient. The hat also boasts the legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. This is a difficult task however it has been achieved by a handful.
