The Sorting Hat also performs many other functions, besides determining which house a student should be assigned. It can read the wearer’s mind and react to their thoughts. It is even able to speak to them. It can be used to determine the House where a student is from and to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.

Room of Requirement
The Room of Requirement was a crucial aspect of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. In addition to the fact that it provided Harry with his first (and last) horcrux and a horcrux, it also served as the location where Voldemort’s lost diadem was hidden. The Room of Requirement was so obscure that it took Dumbledore almost a year to uncover its dark past.

The room is also home to an array of oddball artifacts, such as the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact that is its own. The hat also boasts an legilimen that utilizes legitmization to read minds. While this is a trickier task than many wizards would have you believe it is being only performed by a few.
