The Sorting Hat is creative and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat that belonged to Godric Gryffindor. It is also used by the Founders of Hogwarts to decide the students to put in their Houses.

The Sorting Hat also performs many other functions, besides determining which house a student needs to be assigned. It is able to listen to the wearer’s thoughts, respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can be used to determine the House in which a student is from and also to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.

Room of Requirement
The Room of Requirement was a important part of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. It was not just the place where Harry got his first (and final) horcrux but it was also the place where Voldemort found his lost diadem. The Room of Requirement was so mysterious that it took Dumbledore almost a year to discover its dark past.

The room also houses a variety of odd artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, which is a sapient artifact. The hat also contains the legilimen, a device that uses legitmization to read minds. This is a challenging task, but it has been successfully completed by a few.
