The Sorting Hat also performs various other tasks, in addition to the decision of which house a student should be assigned. It is able to read a wearer’s mind and react to their thoughts. It can even speak to them. It can also be used to determine the House students belong to and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy of it.
