The Sorting Hat can also be used to determine which home a student should reside in. It can read the wearer’s mind, respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It also helps determine which House the student is a member of and to award the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy.

Room of Requirement
The Room of Requirement was a key element of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. It was not just the place where Harry got his first (and final) Horcrux, but it was also the place the location where Voldemort found his lost diadem. The area is also home to an array of oddball artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact of its own. The hat also contains the legilimen, which utilizes legitmization in order to read minds. This isn’t an easy task but it has been accomplished by a few.

Some of these short-cuts are only known to members of the House. The secret entrance for Hufflepuff is behind barrels. It’s also under the spell so tap the barrel with a rhythm to open a slimy chute.

The Dark Room is the place where Dumbledore’s army meets. It is also the location of many of the battles in the Harry Potter series. It is also where Dumbledore lays out his case for Harry’s defense. It contains floor cushions for defensive spells as well as volumes of Defence Against the Dark Arts.

There are also secret entrances into four House dormitories. They are also kept from the outside, and require a password or a ritual. These entrances are used by the members of that House.
