Sorting hat
In the first year of Hogwarts the students are assigned an appropriate house that is based on their personality traits. The Sorting Hat does the heavy lifting, putting students in the most appropriate House to challenge them. It’s a great way to test one’s strengths and weaknesses.

The Sorting Hat is an enchanted and clever object. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat which belonged to Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine the students who will be placed in the Hogwarts Houses , as decided by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat can be used to determine which home a student should reside in. It can listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It also helps determine the House students belong to, and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy.

Aside from providing Harry with his first (and final) horocracy, it was also the location where Voldemort’s lost diadem was hidden. In fact, the Room of Requirement was so enigmatic that it took the best part of a year Dumbledore to reveal its dark past.

The room also contains a number of oddball artifacts including the Sorting Hat, which is an ancient artifact. The hat also houses a legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. While this is a trickier task than many wizards would like you to believe, it has been only performed by a few.
