The Sorting Hat is an enchanted and clever object. It was created by J.K. Rowling, and is a reference to the magician’s hat which was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine the students who will be placed in Hogwarts Hostel by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat also serves various other tasks, in addition to determining which house a student needs to be assigned. It is able to read the wearer’s mind and respond to their thoughts. It can even speak to them. It can be used to determine the House which a student comes from and also to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who are qualified.

Required Room
The Room of Requirement was a important element of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. Aside from providing Harry with his first (and final) horcrux It was also the place the place where Voldemort’s diadem, which was lost, was hidden. The Room of Requirement was so obscure that it took Dumbledore nearly a year to unravel its dark history.

The area is also home to various odd-looking artifacts like the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact that is its own. The hat also houses a legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. Although this is a more difficult task than the majority of wizards would have you believe it is being only performed by a few.
