They are typically hidden by tapestry or with a secret entrance. These short-cuts can only be accessed by House members. The secret entrance to Hufflepuff is behind barrels. It is also under spell so when you tap the barrel in a the same rhythm, it will open an edgy chute.

The Dark Room is where Dumbledore’s Army meets. It is also where the battles take place in the Harry Potter series. It is also where Dumbledore argues for Harry’s defense. It contains floor cushions for defensive spells, and also volumes of Defence Against the Dark Arts.

There are also secret entrances to four House dormitories. These are also hidden from the outside, and require a password or ritual. These entrances can only be used by members of the House.
