The Sorting Hat also performs a number of functions beyond the decision of the house to which a student should be assigned. It is able to listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It can also be used to determine which House the student is a member of and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy.

Room of Requirement
The Room of Requirement was a key aspect of Harry’s Hogwarts experience. It was not only the place where Harry got his first (and final) Horcrux, but it was also the place where Voldemort found his lost diadem. The room also houses various odd-looking artifacts, such as the Sorting Hat, a sapient artifact that is its own. The hat also houses a legilimen, which uses legitmization in order to read minds. While this is a trickier task than many wizards would have you believe it is being only performed by a few.
