The Sorting Hat is imaginative and magical. It was invented by J.K. Rowling and pays tribute to the magician’s hat that was owned by Godric Gryffindor. It also serves to determine the students who will be placed in Hogwarts Houses by the Founders of Hogwarts.

The Sorting Hat can be used to determine the house a student is best placed in. It can listen to the wearer’s thoughts and respond to wearer’s thoughts, and even speak to the wearer. It can also be used to determine which House students belong to, and to present the Sword of Gryffindor to those who are worthy.

The room also houses a range of odd artifacts, including the Sorting Hat, which is an ancient artifact. The hat also houses a legilimen, which uses legitmization to read minds. This isn’t an easy task but it has been successfully completed by a handful.
