The Sorting Hat also serves a number of functions beyond determining which house a student should be assigned. It is able to read the wearer’s mind and respond to the wearer’s thoughts, and even talk to the wearer. It can also be used to determine the House which a student comes from and to present the Sword of Gryffindor only to those who have the qualifications.

There are a few short-cuts to get from the school to the castle. These are not always easy however. These are usually concealed by tapestry or with a secret entrance. These shortcuts are only access by House members. The secret entrance of Hufflepuff is behind barrels. It’s also under the spell, so tap the barrel to let an edgy chute.

The Dark Room is the place where Dumbledore’s Army gathers. It is also where the battles are fought during the Harry Potter series. It is also where Dumbledore argues in Harry’s defense. It also contains floor cushions for defensive spells and volumes of Defence Against the Dark Arts.

There are also secret entrances to four House dormitories. They are also hidden from the outside and require a password or a ritual. These entrances can only be used by members of the House.
